I have many fond memories of playing Third Reich when I was younger.  I thought the game was terribly flawed but it was fun anyhow.  When I saw that it had been updated into a new game I was excited but all this faded after one playing.  It seems that this game have more problems than I remember the origional had.  Perhaps my favorite problem is best demonstrated by the russian production rules which require tha thalf of all units produced be placed in Moscow or Lenningrad and forbid moving these units.  Well this means you can only build 8 units but are penalized for not building units.  While this is an example of the stupidity of the rules it is the research, surrender, and the submarine warfare which really wreck the game.  Despite interesting concepts these are all so badly done that they actually made the game unplayable.  With an aggressive naval campaign Britian's surrender seems unavoidable.  The research is too slow for a game of 22 turns.   As an interesting note it also seemed possible to play this as a peace game.  Where if the axis does nothing they can keep the US out of the war entirely and Russia until 1944.  Perhaps A world at Peace would be a better game.
