Usually I do not consider army construction as a part of strategy but in 7th ed it has become a crucial element of gaming. It is not that I feel games are won in army construction but in 7th it is easy to lose games in construction. As a result it is important to cover several bases so that your army can play against the tough armies. The first and most obvious one is magic. Many armies can just dominate a game in the magic phase and these armies are preveleant at tournaments. As such an army needs an antimagic plan. This can be as simple as 8 dispel dice, or 6 dispel scrolls, or even 4 dice with the ring of hotek but something is needed. Once this is considered the next problem is fear. Armies that cause fear are just better than other armies and without some ability to minimize the negative effects of fear your army will have problems. Frequently this can be done but chaos marks, banners, of fear causing charcters. Finally I always consider the dragon. This is any large terror causing flying monster. These are hard to deal with as they can avoid you. The easiest solution is shooting or magic but powerful character may be needed as well. Once AI consider how my army will deal with all of these I then build the rest of the army and against all opponents get a chance to play a game.
