It has always seemed to me that the SCA does not reward skill or Chivalry but rather winning under the name of these. Fighting awards are geared to dressing nicely and winning fights. In fighting we rely on the opponent to judge what is good and in this lies the essence of chivalry and skill as the lighter they call a shot the more skill they need ot block and the greater their chivalry to the oppoenent. This though is not reward but ignored. I thought that it would be nice to recognize the weekend warrior who is unconcerned about looks but takes fairly, complains little, and is enjoying themselves in the activity of fighting. So I have started to hand out an award the Honorus Pugnator Hodieni. At all events I attend I will select one fighter who I think excemplifies the notion of fighting fairly and just for fun. They will receive a medallion to commemorate this which I hope they will wear with pride. Awarded Fighters
