Story:

It all began with a commotion at the Library of King at Karaz-a-Karak. Vartoc had used all the influence a young runesmith could find and all the money his engineer friend, Asa, could borrow to spend a few days researching the fallen keep of Karak Varn. With time running out his thoughts were interrupted by oaths and curses usually reserved for a dwarf being shorn. The rest of the patrons privileged enough to be in this library buried themselves in their work but Vartoc succumbed to that undwarf-like quality called curiosity. Thus he had meet the strange dwarf Joldrag who called himself the King of Vlag, a stronghold destroyed so long ago that even dwarves had forgotten it. Asa had never questioned Vartoc when he returned with this odd fellow in tow and seemed even glad for the protection Joldrag's warriors provided as they scoured the ruined halls of Karak Varn in search of treasure. The knowledge Vartoc had gleamed served them well as with Asa's machines, Vartoc's runes, and Joldrag's muscle they
accumulated a king's horde from the ruined stronghold. While skill and knowledge could recover the treasure a horde goblins had gathered to steal it. Thus on the shores of Blackwater Vartoc and Asa swore to help Joldrag in his quest to restore Karak-Vlag to its ancient splendor if they survived.

“Vartoc! We need to deploy our forces”, Asa called at his childhood friend.

“Coming”, Vartoc replied wondering how a dwarf could be so full of the traditional dwarven virtue of
industry but so taken by innovation and adventure as his friend.

Strolling from his tent Vartoc saw the the eyes of the believers all around. Joldrag may be a drunken
braggart but he still could inspire loyalty.

“The enemy is close at hand”, reminded Asa, “just over the hills and moving fast.”

“Humph, Well then let us array as in the battle of Gunbad pass, someone rouse Joldrag, ...” The orders
flowed like a waterfall on a secluded mountain stream and the faithful ebbed away to do their part in the
well oiled machine of war.

Goblin wolf riders were sighted and the bedlam of the greenskinned hordes could be heard over Joldrags rants and bellows. But Vartoc drifted off in the silence of the prebattle lull to the library of King Thorgrim and is moment of curiosity. No matter how many times he replayed that moment in his mind he could not decide if it had been fool hardy to go look at Joldrag or wise. Young runesmiths often can not decipher the will of Grungni well. With his words he got Joldrag into the hall and then spent the half his last day finding proof of the lost Karak of Vlag. This action chosen perhaps it was inevitable that he end up in this dell for grungni’s chain is not easily broken...

“Waaugh” rolled out over the field breaking Vartoc’s musings as the greenskins advanced onto the field.

“Forward” Vartoc said softly to Joldrag who breathed deep to give the command for battle to be joined.
