Tourny Report from Jeff Aaronson

This week's Tuesday night draft had 10 players: Me, 2 guys who came with Cameron, Mike Ruff, Boldo, Steve McCarthy, Ray P, Neal C, some other guy and Cameron Miller, seated in that order. We drafted Mercadian Masques, Nemesis, then Prophecy and I opened two Bombs and was Passed another. This is the deck I came up with.

  • Forced March
  • Predator, Flagship
  • Avatar of Hope
  • Intimidation
  • Chilling Aparition
  • Hollow Warrior
  • 2 Trenching Steed
  • 2 Misshapen Fiend
  • Mine Bearer
  • Death Charmer
  • Rathi Intimidator
  • Plague Fiend
  • Deepwood Ghoul
  • Netter en-Dal
  • Nightwind Glider
  • Vicious Hunger
  • Afterlife
  • Parallax Dementia
  • Seal of Cleansing
  • Soul Strings
  • Invioability
  • Ramosian Rally
  • 10 Swamps
  • 6 Plains
  • Henge of Ramos

Round 1 vs Boldo playing R/U/W

He Beat me down quickly, but I was able to get a standoff with my Avatar. I made the mistake of casting a Trenching Steed, which allowed Boldo to Tap my Avatar with Rystic Deluge for the win. In game 2 I was able to stall the game again with my Avatar, but he finished me with his Kris Mage.
0-1, 0-2

Round 2 vs Neal also playing B/W

We beat eachother down until a standoff occurred with me at 3 and him at 12. I cast a Vicious Hunger, even though it couldn't kill anything. He didn't draw much black this game and I was able to break the standoff with Intimidation. He hit me for 4 damage, putting me at 1, but I was able to finish him off next turn. In game 2 Neal didn't draw any plains until late and my Chilling Apparition killed his hand. I followed that up with Predator, Flagship and Neal Conceded after he didn't draw an answer. We played a third game and he beat me easily, his deck was clearly better, but he didn't draw/have any Bombs.
1-1, 2-2

Round 3 vs Cameron Miller playing R/U

Cameron had fed me white, while I fed him Red so we knew many of eachother's cards. We went to 3 games, he defeated me with Cinder Elemental went I couldn't draw the 7th land in order to Forced March for 4.
1-2, 3-4

Overall, a good performance considering my opponents went 3-0, 2-1, and 2-1, respectively. All 3 made the final 4 out of 10 people. I had a pretty good deck, but the pairings didn't go my way.
