Tourny Report from Cameron Miller

This is a Cameron Miller with a recent booster draft at Boldo's. There were 4 participants including myself, and the format was round robin. An interesting side note is that we opened up amazing packs, and rares such as Mageta The Lion, Jeweled Spirit, Blinding Angel, Flowstone Overseer, Reverent Mantra, Bog Elemental, and other good cards could be picked up on the 2nd-14th picks. Here is my deck:

  • 1 Scoria Cat
  • 1 Orim's Cure
  • 1 Lightbringer
  • 1 Lesser Gargadon
  • 1 Flowstone Overseer
  • 1 Gerrard's Irregulars
  • 1 Trenching Steed
  • 1 Charmed Griffin
  • 1 Soul Charmer
  • 1 Spur Grappler
  • 1 Rhystic Lightning
  • 1 Fault Riders
  • 1 Laccolith Grunt
  • 1 Reverent Mantra
  • 1 Alabaster Wall
  • 1 Thunderclap
  • 1 Silkenfist Order
  • 1 Ancient Hydra
  • 1 Blinding Angel
  • 1 Devout Witness
  • 1 Crossbow Infantry
  • 1 Mine Bearer
  • 10 Mountains
  • 8 Plains

Round One: Jeff Hoffman vs. Cameron Miller

Jeff was playing a black blue deck with removal, I think three forms of counterspells, Catern Enforcer, Cateran Kidnapper, other mercenaries, and decent sized creatures.

Game One: Jeff starts rolling with some early removal backed by an Outrigger and an Enforcer. I stabilize with a Mine Bearer and a Fault Riders plus an Irregulars. He gets me down to one, but once his Outrigger dies he draws land or counterspells and my creatures kill him in about 3-4 turns.

Game Two: My draw is much better and I think he has another Outrigger and an Enforcer this game. I get out a Blinding Angel, and kill his Enforcer via Mine Bearer. The Angel goes the distance, and my army finally finishes him off when he is around 8 life.

1-0

Round Two: Matt Hoffman vs. Cameron Miller

This is not the big Matt Hoffman that used to come here; it is Jeff Hoffman's brother. He was playing a green/white deck with very suboptimal cards, such as Fanatical Devotion, 1/1 creatures, and I think his only way to win was by decking someone.

Game One: I think this was a very quick game as he casts one or two creatures which I run over with an army of Gargadon, Irregulars, Angel and maybe another mid-size creature.

Game Two: All he did this game was cast Fanatical Devotion, Spidersilk Armor, a Joreal's Favor on a Spore Frog, and a Mossdog. My creatures quickly take care of his, and a Devout Witness witnesses some enchantment destruction.

2-0

Round Three: Eric Dimarcio vs. Cameron Miller

Eric decided to try a five color deck but did have some bombs like Jeweled Spirit and Mageta The Lion. He had some solid creatures but with five different land types one will get mana screwed.

Game One: Apparently Eric does get to 2 plains during the midgame, and he had two creatures on the table. They were a Minotaur and a Airship. Once he cast the second plains I thought the Spirit or Lion would make an appearance and fortunately they did not. My angel plus other creatures quickly won in a few turns.

Game Two: Eric does not have a very good draw and was lacking some crucial land types. I quickly won with big creatures matched with his one or two. He did cast a Rhystic Study and a Counterspell enchant land card. That was not enough as a Scoria Cat plus an Angel and an Overseer quickly ran him over.

3-0

That's all for now.
