Tourny Report from Cameron Miller

This is Cameron Miller with a recent Wacky Draft report. There were 6 participants who were Sean Fletcher, Steve McCarthy, Jeff Aaronson, Ray Placious, Mike Ruff, and myself. Cards like Wizards of the Coasts Customer Service, Checks and Balances, Volcanic Winds, Squirrel Wrangler, Infernal Genesis, Story Circle, and Rupture are a few which were pulled in the packs and could highly influence the game. This was a letter draft in that one would open up their pack and if someone had chosen a "B" for their letter, then they would pass all the cards starting with "B" to that person. I elected to use the letter "C" and chose 3 Tempest packs plus the 1 Unglued only to find out that they were not in English. Well I did get 19-23 "C" like Chicken a la King, 4 Checks and Balances, some Catern's like the Enforcer and smaller creatures, 2 Charm Schools, and garbage like Calming Verse's, Conquer, Cave Sense, and other bad stuff. Here's the deck: 1 Chicken a la King 1 Pit Raptor 2 Calming Verse 4 Checks and Balances 1 Story Circle 1 Funeral Charm 1 Clambassadors 1 Charm Peddler 1 Rock Lobster 1 Reprisal 1 Trenching Steed 1 Coastal Hornclaw 1 Chicken Egg 1 Gush 2 Fowl Play 1 Crash 1 Troubled Healer 1 Conquer 1 Cho-Arrim Legate 1 Plague Witch 1 Cateran Brute 1 Mine Bearer 1 Cave Sense 2 Charm School 1 Soul Charmer 1 Alley Grifters 1 Enslaved Horror 1 Rappeling Scouts 1 Cateran Enforcer 1 Circle of Protection: Green 1 Maggot Therapy 1 Vendetta 2 Cateran Persuader 1 Cavern Crawler and 25-30 land (Swamps, Islands, and Plains)

Well the game starts ok, but I am slightly manascrewed. Ray is really starting to pick up the pace with a Rhystic Study which no one pays for, or can pay for. He is drawing 2-3 extra cards a turn with it. Jeff Aaronson is playng Skyshroud Cutters by using their alternate casting cost. Steve is just casting an Agent of Shaku and a Gus. Ruff casts a denim walking lizard and starts to attack Shawn with it. Shawn then proceeds to play a Deadhead and throughout the game the Deadhead(s) come back into play more than they should. Well the game is at a stall for a while (some creatures are being killed via Laccolith Rig, and Sever Soul). When Jeff casts an Infernal Genesis when he has a Briar Patch on the board he gains some serious control. The Genesis appears to help most of the players out, but I lost a Troubled Healer to it, Jeff lost some Customer Service, and Steve lost a Squirrel Wrangler. Shawn decides to cast an Equipoise targeting Mike Ruff, and in another turn or two Ray casts a 32 point Volcanic Winds (there was a Checks and Balances out plus I had a Chicken a la King in play, with one of Mike's creatures turned into a Fowl). The King is assassinated, and just about every other creature on the board dies. A few turns later Ruff is dead, and in about 4-5 more turns Ray decks himself (Rhystic Study). By now most of us have 3-7 minions out, and when I draw a Pit Raptor I attack Jeff with it and a Trenching Steed. I bring him down to 3 but then the other players decide to gang up on me, and in a few turns I lose. In about 10-12 turns after that Steve is killed by a Burrowing Goblin. About 15-25 turns before this occured a Warmonger and a Rupture had dealt about 14-15 damage and cleared the board when they made an appearance. Sean is eventually decked (Jeff had a Brawl in his visible hand), and since Barashi made a cameo appearance with the graveyard Jeff had regained many of his lost creatures and also regained a larger deck. The winner is Jeff Aaronson.

That's all for now.
