Tourny Report from Cameron Miller

This is Cameron Miller with a recent 4 person (Les Hayes, Jason, Matt, and myself) booster draft. The draft was decent, and some good cards were opened up. Here is the deck: 1 Nesting Wurm 2 Blastoderm 2 Thresher Beast 1 Spidersilk Armor 1 Spiketail Drake 1 Belbe's Armor 1 Giant Caterpillar 1 Waterfront Bouncer 1 Ribbon Snake 1 Thopter Squadron 1 Coiling Woodwurm 1 Vintara Elephant 1 Stormwatch Eagle 1 Ribcage Spider 1 Trickster Mage 1 Brainstorm 1 Rethink 1 Counterspell 1 Pygmy Razorback 1 Dehydration 1 other card 10 Forests 8 Islands

Round One: Les Hayes vs. Cameron Miller

Les was playing a decent red/white deck with Avatar of Fury, Oracles Attendents, removal, a small rebel engine, Troubled Healer, and good mid-size creatures.

Game One: Les is overwhelmed with Thopter Squadron, and a Spiketail Drake. Even though Les had an Attendents out I eventually overwhelmed him, and I Dehydrated a Trap Runner to pull off this game.

Game Two: We each have decent draws, only that I draw about 6-8 lands in a row. Fortunately I have a Counterspell in hand, and I am bouncing a Troubled Healer back during his end step and attack with a Spiketail drake and a Thresher Beast. Les tries to kill the bouncer via a Shock Troops and a Rhystic Lightning, but I use Belbe's Armor in response to the Troops, and return the bouncer to my hand via the bouncer's ability. When Les draws an Avatar of Fury and spends two red to cast it I Rethink it, and as it turns out he has to pay eight for the creature. When he learns he has to pay eight instead of two he scoops up his cards and drops out. The game was still at a standstill when this occured; but I guess he did not feel like playing anymore.

1-0

Round Two: Matt vs. Cameron Miller

I heard that Matt is fairly new to Magic and it did show in his deck construction and during gameplay. Matt built a very fast blue/white deck with cards like Glitttering Lynx's, Lions, Hazy Homuculi, Coastal Piracy (very good with his deck), Jolting Merfolk, Fanatical Devotion, Customs Depot, Quicksilver Wall (first time I have seen it played), and other 1/1's and small fast creatures.

Game One: I think I had a Blastoderm followed by a Wurm; although Matt did get me down to around six life I stabilized when he kept on all out attacking me. I blocked the Jolting Merfolk, and in a few turns I played some big creatures and won.

Game Two: I manage to get out a Belbe's Armor followed by a StormWatch Eagle with a lot of land. Once again Matt keeps on attacking me on almost every turn, and I Armor one of his creatures and kill the other. In a few more turns a Caterpillar, a Ribcage Spider, and another large creature make an appearance and finsih him off.

I win the small tournament with a 2-0 finish.

That's all for now.

-Miller
